After diving into King last week – my first book by T.M. Frazier – I was super excited to start Tyrant, Book2 in the series, also because Book1 ended with a major, gasping-like-a-fish-out-of-water cliff-hanger! Tyrant didn’t disappoint and was at least as good as King. I was very happy with the ending (no spoilers, don’t worry) because I already feared T.M. wouldn’t solve this issue, but she did so perfectly in the end.
As with Book1, I can only give 4 stars even if I enjoyed every second of the book. Why? I’m usually not prone not harsh language and violence, but this book in downright frightening. It’s one thing if George Martin includes these scenes in Game Of Thrones, but it’s another thing entirely if they are used in romance, if it’s more on the suspense side of the genre. It gives the appearance as if the author always wanted to include the most violent and raw scenes just to give the book more peaks. And as with Book1, I doubt that everything that is included in the story is compliant with the Amazon guidelines, but if you look at the amazing reviews, I guess people don’t complain (which I find really funny, because I read below-the-belt bad reviews if an author includes scenes of deception when a couple is already married, but r***** of minors and nearly cutting out a baby with a rusty knife is ok…???). Anyway, it’s not a big issue for me, but I think the story could have done without the exaggerations.
I was also a little bit disturbed because in Amazon it’s categorized as “Romantic Suspense”, which is totally misleading. This is a raw, gritty, super-dark, very sinister romance that should wear 3 stamps of warnings.
Frankly, I won’t dive into the other books in the series – mostly because I don’t want to go from King’s POV to Bear’s (I prefer reading a series from one main char), but this is just my personal preference. But I’ll definitely keep an eye open on her next releases!
