As expected, another fantastic book by LJ Shen. I liked the big “blow” about Célian’s father at the end of the story and all the background in the media/news business. She did some great research here.
Yet, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between all of LJ Shen’s books. Somehow, she tends to write the same stories every time, and I don’t know if that’s annoying or brilliant. For example, her heroines are always the same – loyal, selfless, and a bit weird (Jude has her colorful Chucks, Emilia in Vicious has an awful taste for dresses, Indigo in Midnight Blue also wears weird dresses that she makes herself). Another plot point that repeats itself all the time: there’s always the vindictive ex that jeopardizes their relationships (and they usually end up in rehab because of alcohol problems). The heroine always has the great parents, the hero always the bad ones.
And, there’s always one person the heroine has to care about (in Bane it’s the old woman with the maze in her garden, in Dirty Headlines the father with cancer, in Vicious it’s Rose with her illness, and all of them are poor and need to save money for meds). And of course, the heroes are always selfish bastards with big egos and millions of dollars on their bank accounts and happen to have an awful past and/or a parent who wants to make their lives miserable.
Each of LJ’s books is brilliant, but I’d be happy to see some new approaches in the future. Let’s see how the All Saints High books turn out, can’t wait for them!

Cameron Moore always had an eye on his best friend’s little sister but considered her strictly off limits, choosing to satisfy his lust elsewhere. NY Times and USA Today bestselling author CHERRIE LYNN has been a CPS caseworker and a juvenile probation officer, but now that she has come to her senses, she writes contemporary and paranormal romance on the steamy side. It's *much* more fun. She's also an unabashed rock music enthusiast, and loves letting her passion for romance and metal collide on the page.
When she's not writing, you can find her reading, listening to music or playing with her favorite gadget of the moment. She's also fond of hitting the road with her husband to catch their favorite bands live.
Cherrie lives in East Texas with said husband and their two kids, all of whom are the source of much merriment, mischief and mayhem.
I was seriously torn about how many stars to give. For nearly a decade now, I’ve followed Stephanie on the Afterlife Saga journey, swallowing each book in the series within days. Of course, expectations are insanely high now.
Reading Vincent’s Immortal Curse was one hell of a ride for me. Starting the book, I was super thrilled. When I read more about the curse, I became angry because I couldn’t help but notice that Stephanie used the same plot as Lauren Kate in her Fallen Series (attention spoiler) with Ari being one of the fallen angels who, more or less, starts a new life every time, something that goes on for centuries. I was glad to see that the story veered off into another direction at some point, but then it started to drag a little. I love Stephanie’s writing style because she likes to point out every detail which makes her world and characters so realistic, but sometimes she tends to exaggerate (I don’t need 2 pages describing how jittery she feels with Vincent being in the same room, I’ve read all about that in the previous 9 books).
I’ve noticed a lot of reviewers pointed out that the jumps through present and past annoyed them. I love these things actually, and the way Stephanie used them gave great insight into what happened back in 1888, but, to be honest, sometimes it was a little much and frustrating as she tended to cut off the most exciting chapters. This was also what happened at the end, in my opinion. I have nothing against cliff-hangers, but this was no end at all if you ask me, and left way too many questions. The way the curse works is that they forget about their time as soon as they sleep with each other, right? So why is the curse suddenly only about Vincent “falling for an angel without wings”? Clearly, Ari is cursed just the same… very confusing.
And, even if it doesn’t have anything to do with this book, I was a lot more confused about the sneak-peek into “Devil In Me”. Should this be Book2 in Vincent’s story? Or something else entirely? Didn’t get it.
Also, I know that Stephanie’s book covers have always been quite “different”, but this cover didn’t call to me at all. You’d never guess what kind of genre lies behind that wrap-up. I would have thought it to be a YA book.
All the questions and nagging aside because pointing out the negative is always easier, the story was good, and I was relieved to finally understand why Ari and Vincent struggle so much with their relationship.
Dear Stephanie, I will always read all the books you produce because I love them with all my heart - I just hope you don’t get lost into your own world!
I'm working hardcore on the last Book in the Jaylior Series - A Flare Of Love, and I'm happy to announce that it's going to be released as an early Christmas present this year! The manuscript is already finished, now I'm into polishing the story, and then it's off to the editor.
Actually, I was quite surprised to see how fast I finished this book. I went for 80000 words. In the middle, I had a little breakdown because I thought "Omg, I'm never going to make this book long enough". In the end, I came up with 95000 :D
Considering I started this series with no concept in mind AND I had no idea about the ending until I started with the last few chapters, I can't believe what a great story it turned into. And I can't wait for you to read it!
This is how the manuscript looks when it's not yet an eBook. The blue chapters are already finished, the rest I'll go through in September :)
And here a little image I used to visualize Dylan. Hope you agree that he's just PERFECT!
"This was who I was. Too strong for this world. Too weak for her."

ELIA WINTERS has always been a New England girl. Although she spent much of her childhood in Florida, she returned to her home state of Massachusetts as a teenager and has remained in New England ever since. She was blessed with an artsy, creative, somewhat quirky family that nurtured her eccentricities and helped shape her into the sassy woman she is today.
Elia holds a degree in English Literature and teaches at a small rural high school where she runs too many extracurricular activities. She balances her love of the outdoors with a bottomless well of geekiness; in her spare time, she is equally likely to be found skiing, camping, playing tabletop games, or watching Doctor Who.
A writer all her life, Elia likes to dabble in many genres, but erotic romance has been one of her favorites since she first began sneaking her mother's romance novels. In high school, she kept her friends entertained with a steady stream of naughty stories and somehow never got caught passing them around. She loves BDSM erotica and people who can use semicolons.
Elia currently lives in New England with her loving husband and their odd assortment of pets.

Chelsea is smart, funny, gorgeous, and the best friend I’ve ever had. Ever since she left, I’ve been a wreck. I’ve been focused on keeping my family’s MMA gym afloat while I train and coach fighters, anything to not miss her more. But now she’s finally back, along with her grumpy, possessive cat, and things are weird between us.
By weird, I mean I can’t stop thinking about her in that way. She’s in the room next door, and it takes all my control not to storm in there, sweep her up, and bring her back to my bed. Even stranger, I’m pretty sure she’d be into it.
And this time, I’m not going to stop fighting until we’re more.
