All I can say is - fantastic, but I already knew that before I bought the book. LJ Shen is an amazing author. Why? Because no one else can make you visualize emotions like her. She doesn't describe, she doesn't tell, she shows and she lets you taste. Her metaphors are extraordinary. I admit, I always fall into a pit of depression after reading her books because I know I'll never be able to even COMPETE with what LJ manages to bring on paper.
Midnight Blue was a fantastic read, and I loved every word. The only thing that confused me a bit was the similarity to VICIOUS, one of LJ Shen's first books, - Alex is Vicious in so many ways, Indie is like Emilia with colorful hair and weird dresses, she also has a family member that's sick, and there's Lucas who is like Dean, Alex' best friend but also the enemy because he hits on her first. So basically, Midnight Blue is the rocker version of Vicious, but really, it doesn't make the book any less good - just wanted to point it out :)
Anyway, thanks LJ Shen for the gorgeous read - you made my weekend!
Nicole Locker - one of my first "friends" in the self-publishing business, an amazing romance author, and my personal proof reader - wrote this great article about romance books and their impact on women. Our goal as authors in this genre is not only to write about love & sex, it is about strong women who are true to themselves and fight for their words, and it's also about showing our female readers that each of us is perfect in their own way. Last week, a girl contacted me via Instagram and told me that I motivated her to write her first book because she wasn't expecting such a good book from a newbie like me which gave her the needed self-confidence to try her luck. I was so honored!
Anyway, you should definitely check out this blog post from Nicole Locker - love her work!!!
I'm an avid romance reader, although I'm usually not really into the contemporary stuff. This book however, was one hell of a read! Granted, I chose it because of that gorgeous cover... Really, I think I stared at it every day before opening my kindle to read ^^
Then I read the blurb and thought I should give it a try. I wasn't disappointed.
K.L. Kreig drew me already in with the first paragraph. She has a real talent for writing down emotions, using beautiful words and metaphors without getting too complicated. Omg how I wish I could write like this! This author is the reason I'm frustrated every time I work on my own books because, damn it, mine really, really pale in comparison to what this writer can put on paper...
The story was intriguing. I could totally relate to Maverick. The great thing about reading this book is, you don't know the ending until the very ending ^^ Well, at least not until you read three-quarters of the story.
There was one point though (attention SPOILER) where I was maybe, just maybe, a tiiiiiny bit disappointed because I thought that Killian was the one who shot Kael in the end. This would have given the whole story another huge boost ^^
But who am I to correct this great author – the story was f****** great.
@ K.L. Kreig: If you have a lifesize poster of your cover, please send me one :D
